Thirteenth Post: Contemporary Influences
who / where / when: Claudia Domenig, The Burg Castle in Austria, 2009.
what: The stairs on either side of the photo act as leading lines leading your eye up to each of the two windows. This photo is very aesthetically pleasing. The different textures between the stairs and the wall and the tree outside look really great especially since the colors are kind of blah. The railing going down the stairs in the middle bottom of the photo is sort of weird, but I like that it helps you know where the stairs are and where they’re going so it isn’t super confusing.
why: The artist said the photo was taken because she met someone who wanted her to take a picture of it. When I look at this photo I think of a more deeper meaning type feeling. I see the two stair cases as different paths one might take. While they’re different they both lead to the same ending, the stair case in the middle of the photo. Though they lead to the same end, you get different things from the different paths. The stairs are different and the scenery (out the windows) is different depending which one you take.
how: This shot was just taken using a digital camera. I doubt a tripod was used as it seems pretty bright in the photo and there is natural light from the windows. I don’t see anything too crazy about how the photo was taken.
